25 Random Facts
- When my sister married after two years of college and my sister-in-law married at 21 years old, I thought they were both so young and crazy and that I would definitely never get married until I was older. But I lived to eat my words because I got married younger than both of them. (I'd been at college for less than a year and a half when Matt and I married.)
- I met Matt my first week at college.
- I graduated college less than three years after I graduated high school.
- My degree is in communication, but I still don't know why I picked that.
- I took one web design class in college. I pretty much coasted through it because it was all group work, and I relied totally on everyone else. (I learned nothing.) Ironically, that's what I've ended up doing for work.
- When Matt and I were dating I frequently went on dates with other guys, and Matt was okay with that. I think that made me love him more.
- I worked at a Sno-Shack when I was 13 to 16 years old, and to this day it's still my favorite job.
- Not being able to have kids for such a long time hasn't been the easiest thing for me. But I think I've grown a lot from it, and I'm sure I'll appreciate it more when it comes than I would have otherwise. I'm sure it'll totally be worth every minute of waiting. Occasionally I hear women complain about how their pregnancy or delivery didn't go like they wanted, and I hope they realize what a blessing it is to have a healthy baby, despite all the hardships.
- Nothing feels better to me than after I've had a good workout.
- I love being around people, but I've never had a problem being by myself. I secretly--or not so secretly--like having some time to myself when Matt has to study or do church stuff. (It does get old sometimes and I'd rather have him with me, but I don't mind it too much.) During the summers when Matt and I are together 24/7 except when I'm at work, I start going a little crazy and have to take some time to be by myself.
- I was voted Most Friendly in high school. Funny, because the other day at work someone was saying that I'm quiet. I'm not shy and don't have a problem talking to people, but I guess I've realized that I don't have to be the center of attention all the time. I'm happy to listen and let people chat it up all they want.
- I attended BYU-Hawaii for a summer term and went skydiving while I was there. Seriously, Hawaii is the best place for that. Imagine the view!
- Thanks to the Pluids, I now have hope that our kids might like me as much as they like Matt. Matt's a kid magnet, and they love him--especially Chase, the Pluid's two-year-old son. In church Chase will call out, "Matt! Matt! Matt!" until Matt turns around and waves. Once, Kelly (Chase's mom) asked Chase if he wanted to have his friend come over. Chase said, "Matt!" (Are you beginning to understand how much Chase likes Matt?) But last Sunday we sat with the Pluids in church. Kelly had to give a talk so she sat on the stand, and even though Matt and Chase's dad were right there, all Chase wanted was his mom. I loved it! Mom trumps everyone.
- Matt often calls me a Femi-Nazi. It's true. I am. Making a dumb comment about women or acting like women are slaves to everyone is the fastest way to get me riled up. It's a good thing I married Matt, because his mom and dad did a good job training him.
- If I wasn't married to a food-lover, I'd rarely cook.
- Some people think our apartment's always spotlight. Let me clarify: it's not. I'll have to post a current picture to prove it.
- The only T.V. show I really watch is The Office.
- Ever since I was young I've wanted to adopt someday.
- I'm not domestic, musical, or a big phone talker--despite my mom and sister being experts.
- Moving to Des Moines has been the best thing for me and Matt. We love it here.
- Someday I'm going to get a master's degree and maybe a doctorate in something I actually find interesting.
- I'm generally an optimist and tend to think the best of people, politicians, places, situations, etc.
- I love, love, love being outdoors (except when it's zero degrees, like right now).
- I try to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way, because I think looking back I'll regret the things I didn't do more than the things I did.
- My one big dream in life is to have a home (a house not an apartment) and to have a family. And I want our home to be a place where, when family and friends come in, they feel like it's a haven and a refuge from all the problems and negativism they face elsewhere. I want our home to be the place all our kids' friends want to come, because it's so fun (and Matt and I are so cool). I'm kind of against video games (I think there's better uses of time for kids), but Matt says kids won't come over unless we have them, so I'm sure I'll give in someday.

Kids (at least the boys) will come over without video games as long as we have a ping pong table, foosball, and air hockey.
A Wii would be okay too though someday.

Ah, most of that stuff I already knew about you, but some of the stuff I didn't. Now I feel bad for complaining about pregnancy. I know that infertility is one of the hardest things ever.
erin! you are amazing...can i just tell you that. you are such a good example to me...you never complain about anything and are so optimistic, i envy you. i like jamie said feel bad about complaining about my pregnancy, i'm sorry. but you really are such a good friend..thanks so much for everything.
I loved reading this! I can totally picture you all cheery while working at the snow shack.
And I can't wait to see you as a mother. You are going to be fabulous. I really admire the way you handle your trials with so much grace.
Oh Erin! You are still just as cute as ever. It's so fun to read things about you I didn't know. You are so fun! As has been said in previous comments, you will be a fantastic mother and whoever the lucky little ones are that end up in your home will be very well taken care of.
I love that you are "sort of" against video games. That made me laugh. I hope I get to see you as a mom-meaning I hope it happens for you soon.
I have to admit I loved the mom trumps all comment. I really feel second in line to Matt sometimes when it comes to Chase. That made me feel so much better. I don't think you will have to wait until you have a home full of kids before their friends will want to come over and hang out. My kids beg to go over to your house all the time. They think it is the greatest/funnest place ever. I can't wait to see you as a mother to. I know that you are going to be a fabulous mother and you will trump Matt when it comes down to it.
This was a fun read.... You are a wonderful person. I know you'll have the home you are dreaming of. It will be a place everyone feels good and welcome.
