As a teenager I worried that I'd get a loser husband—that he'd be the sweet spirit type of guy—but totally dull and kind of nerdy. Fortunately for me, I lucked out in the marriage department!
While Matt was traveling for three months, whenever people asked how I was handling him being gone, I'd spew out some babble about how easy it was not having to cook dinner or do twice as much laundry, blah, blah, blah. (And those were minor perks, but really I just said that because I didn't want people to feel sorry for me.) I don't think they bought it anyway, because who am I kidding? Matt's amazing.
He is willing to do/say/buy anything to make me and Skylie happy. For example:
- A couple months ago our computer crashed, and it was going to cost $2,000+ to get all of Skylie's baby pictures back. When I told him I wanted to get the pictures back, he said totally seriously, "If you're willing to spend that much money, those pictures must be really important to you so I think we should do it." (Long story short, the data recovery experts weren't able to get our pictures back, we didn't have to spend any money, and Skylie still has a 200-page baby book of pictures I'd saved elsewhere.)
- He voluntarily cleans/cooks/washes on a regular basis. I know I'm spoiled. But I'm okay with that.
- He dances with me at Gala, even though he does not like to dance. Cute, huh?
- One thing I really love and respect about him is that while he's been in medical school he hasn't put family or church responsibilities on the back burner. Even during his busiest times, he's taken time for me and Skylie. For the first three years of medical school, Matt got up around 5 a.m. practically every Sunday and tended to church responsibilities for a big chunk of the day, and I can honestly say that he never complained. I know he's made sacrifices to be the family man that he is, and I feel so fortunate.
- Skylie adores her Dad. Nobody makes her laugh and smile like he does. Check out this video I caught of them:
Matt is definitely one of the people I am most thankful for.
