On the Move

These videos taken yesterday capture Skylie crawling. She could barely get around a week ago, but now she's got it down pact.

Last night during her a bath, she grabbed hold of the faucet-thingy that makes the water stay in or out, and she pulled herself up to standing in one swift move. Scary!

I have a feeling this is only the beginning of many, many daredevil stunts this girl pulls.

Month Seven

Sky,

Two days ago I held a newborn. I looked at the newborn then stared at you, and I couldn't believe you were ever that small. It seems like just yesterday we brought you home from the hospital, and now you're sitting up on your own, crawling, and are able to hold your own bottle! Where has the time gone? I miss my newborn, but I'll admit that you're a lot more fun now.

Some words that describe you are:

Happy |
Smiley | Wiggle-worm | Active | Green-bean hater | Apple sauce lover |
Kisser of Mom | Grinner at Dad when he walks in the door | Independent | Occasional cuddler | Stroller lover | Crib hater | Crawler | Stomach sleeper | Yoga poser (Your favorite is the down-dog position. You do it everywhere--the bathtub, diaper changing mat, everywhere.) |
Talker | Entertainer | CuriousMischievous | And last but not least, a joy.
This month you got a cough and runny nose. Your sick cry was so soft and—dare I admit—pretty cute. That sickness has led to an ear infection, and you're currently taking a round of antibiotics. You seem to be doing great, though.

You've started scooting and can get around wherever you want, now. You're super slow, but you do your crawling thing when you want to. You like to stick your bum in the air like you're doing a down-dog yoga pose. It's adorable, but when you try that stunt in the bathtub, you usually end up with a mouthful of water. Nice.

I took you to Baby Rhyme Time at the library, and you were mesmerized by the bright colors and funny noises, not to mention the ten other babies in the room.

You're teething, and I'm kind of afraid of those two teeth you have now.

Bedtime for you is around 8 p.m., and on good nights you sleep until about 7:00 a.m.. I don't claim that you're a perfect sleeper, though. Good thing you're cute!

Oh, and I think you spit up less now. My clothes thank you.

Please keep giving me kisses. I love them! But sometimes you should share that slobber with your Dad. I think he's jealous. ;)

Love you forever,

Mom

Birthday 2010

Saturday:
The birthday boy and his two favorite girls
  • Biscuit and sausage gravy breakfast
  • Shoe shopping
  • Lunch at La Mie
  • Window shopping at Homemakers
  • Dining out at Jethro's BBQ, a sports bar and grill, where we watched University of Northern Iowa beat Kansas (Apparently it was a big upset since Kansas was ranked #1. We caught the action at a sports bar in Iowa where everyone was rooting for UNI. Perfect!)
  • Watching more basketball (I fell asleep on the couch, but at least I was there, right?)
Sunday:
Dinner
    Cake and ice-cream with friends
You know you've got good friends when they come to celebrate your birthday, even when their wife's in labor. Thanks, Gavin!
Our thoughtful friends, the Ellis's decorated our front door.

Exhibit A: Iowa Flooding

This is a nearby trail we frequently visit. Since last week it's been underwater. Crazy, I know, but I'll gladly take spring flooding if it means the torturous Iowa winter is finally over.

28 Big Ones

I'm not sure how a teenager could make such a great choice, but my decision to marry Matt couldn't have been better. It was by far the best decision I'll ever make.

Happy birthday to the old man. Matt turns 28 today.

We've spent his last six birthdays together. While I can't speak for Matt—in my opinion—they've been the best! Here's a recap of the last few birthdays of this birthday boy.

2005
Surprise party
During the day he'd been given or found 23 Easter eggs. Inside each egg was a reason I liked him. (I have yet to think of something that tops that on the cute-o-meter.)

2006
Cake with the Service Activities Council
Matt was head honcho.

2007
Lunch with Erin's family
This was one of many celebrations since we lived in Utah at the time.

2008
Touring Chicago with Nate and Megan Rencher
Shopping. Eating at China Town. Ed Debevics. Blue Man Group.

2009
Dining-in due to our Babymoon in Minneapolis the week prior
Matt spent most of the day in board prep classes.

Happy Birthday, Matt!

Fort Worth, Texas

Dear World Wide Web,

Matt will be spending August 1-27 in Fort Worth, Texas doing a rotation for medical school.

Does anyone know of a cheap place he could stay? Or do you know someone living there whom he could possibly rent a bedroom?

Moochingly yours,
Erin

Skylie's Six Month Pictures

Whenever I get Skylie's picture taken, I plan on buying only one or two photos. I have no clue how it happens, but I always end up with more. :)
