Celebrating One Year Down

Last Tuesday Matt completed his first year of medical school! We're both excited for him to have a little less rigorous schedule for a while. With the exception of Christmas and Spring Break, I can't recall a time he's had a weekend completely free of studying since he's been in medical school. This last week, especially the weekend, has been a blast!

Tuesday night we celebrated the end of the school year at a barbecue.

Wednesday Matt and I got free dinner at a new restaurant, Chipoltle. It's a new restaurant opening here in Des Moines, and they were giving out free meals for the evening. After waiting in line for only 40 minutes, we received huge burritos. Mmm! Yum! Another exciting thing that happened this night is that we bought an antenna for our T.V. For over two-and-a-half years (the entire time since we've been married) Matt and I haven't been able to watch T.V. because we've been putting off buying an antenna. So finally, for a whopping $17 we're now able to watch T.V. We both agree that waiting this long to spend 17 bucks was pretty ridiculous—but we're excited to have the antenna now.

Friday (this was my favorite day):
Matt and I had been planning for months to go out to eat at Olive Garden in celebration of Matt completing his first year—and this was the lucky night! Matt was so cute about it, too. He came and "picked me up" at our apartment, like he did on dates before we married. The salad, bread sticks, and main dish were to die for! Later we used a free coupon to get frozen yogurt at TCBYs (my newest favorite treat). "What Lies Beneath" was the movie for the night, and I screamed my head off. Multiple times I found myself jumping off the couch to turn on the lights or singing Primary songs because I felt so scared. I'm not a big fan of scary movies, but Matt loves watching them with me, just to watch me react. Sorry neighbors, if you heard shrieking late that night.

Saturday (this was my other favorite day) morning Matt and I watched some of our friends' kids. We made sugar cookies with Brynlee then took her and Gracen to a park nearby to play and have a picnic. They are super cute kids. Later, Matt and I took a trip to Sam's Club—the entire purpose of going was to get free samples. And the trip was well worth it. We played a little tennis then joined friends for some board games.

Sunday after some friends had us over for dinner and games, Matt and I went on a long walk on some trails—and railroad tracks—that are nearby our apartment. The weather the entire weekend was beautiful. I love how green Des Moines is right now. I love the tall trees and the fire flies and....

if you're still reading this super long post, you're a trooper. :)

Oh I'm so glad you've been having fun with Matt! We LOVE Olive Garden...we can completely stuff ourselves there for no more than $13, total! Including a fancy tip! Our first year out here we lived 2 minutes away..and ate there WAY more than we should've. And where did you find this TCBY Coupon? I couldn't take my craving anymore and Saturday night Logan and I swung by and got some. It was so good!!

Obviously, I'm a little hungry...haha!
