Meet Me

This appeared in a newsletter my Church puts together for the women in our ward. I wrote it. Like how I quoted myself? (totally the communication major coming out...) I'm saving this for my big introduction when I speak at the White House. :)

Getting to Know Sister Erin Pitcher

Erin and Matt Pitcher moved to Iowa a year and a half ago, fell in love with the Midwest, and are thrilled to be staying in Des Moines for the next few years.

Matt and Erin's friendship began at BYU-Idaho during Erin's first week at college. Even though Matt was a returned missionary from the Salt Lake City South Mission and Erin had sworn off all returned missionaries because “all they wanted was to get married,” the two hit it off. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in November 2005. After earning their bachelors degrees, they ventured to Iowa and consider it home.

Erin's the sugar mama for now, doing web developing for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and teaching group exercise classes at Des Moines University. Matt spends his time studying blood, text books, and cadavers (all things that make Erin want to puke) as he pursues his dreams of becoming a medical doctor.

They both love the outdoors—hiking, biking, skiing, and camping, and Erin hopes that her love for running compensates for her chocolate addiction. They enjoy having friends over, but "eat at your own risk," Erin warns. "I haven't conquered the kitchen."

Matt serves as ward clerk, and Erin teaches Primary and works on the stake's Public Affairs Committee.

"We feel lucky to be members of the Des Moines 2nd Ward," Erin says. "So many people have taken us into their arms and hearts. The ward has become like our family, and that's reassuring when our own families are so far away."
