He's pretty sure he's finally decided in which field of medicine he wants to specialize. I gotta admit, I never saw that one coming. But I'm stoked for him. He's thinking he'll likely specialize in pediatrics, and he's a kid magnet, so I think he'll be an A+ doc.
Matt'll be doing rotations in and around Des Moines through July 2010. See here for details.
After that the schedule for Matt's travels goes something like this (I'll be staying in Des Moines through May 2011.):
- August through October 2010 - Matt will traveling the country spending four weeks working at differently places he'd potentially like to do residency. Michigan and Texas are two locations he's looking into.
- November and December 2010 - Des Moines
- January 2011 - Heber or Salt Lake, maybe
- February through mid-April 2011- Des Moines
- Mid-April through Mid-May 2011 - South Africa
- Mid-May through the end of May 2011 - Des Moines
- June 2011 -After graduation the end of May we'll visit family (for sure), take our dream vacation to Hawaii (we wish), and move into our house (I wish) where Matt will be doing residency.
- July 2011 - Residency begins for Dr. Pitcher.
- 2015 - A two year fellowship begins if he decides to sub-specialize in pediatrics.
- 2017 - He'll totally finish and be a "real-real" doctor.
It barely hit me this week that Matt and I will be apart for four months this upcoming year--and on Skylie's first birthday. Big bummer! Hopefully we'll be able to see each every month or so. I'm tempted to crawl inside his suitcase when he goes to South Africa. I could totally get through airport security, right?

Wow! It is crazy to think in a year and half their offical title will be Dr. I think we will need to plan plenty of activities to keep us busy next fall. It is exciting that he had decided what he wants to do. He is a total kid magnet so he will be great.
How about we come hang out with you on Skylie's birthday (since Matt will be away), and you come hang out with us on my birthday (since Billy will be away)?
