Month Six

Skylie,
Sometimes it seems like you take giant leaps, developmentally. The last few weeks have seemed like one of those times.

A few milestones you've conquered lately are:
  • Flipping onto your stomach to sleep. (February 8 was the first time you tried out that sleeping position. It worried me at first, but now I only sneak into your room to catch a glimpse at the cutest princess sleeping like a babe.)
  • Falling asleep without being swaddled.
  • Rolling all over the place.
  • Cutting your first tooth! (February 16) And another one popped through last week.
  • Scooting.
  • Getting rock hard abs while trying so desperately to sit up by yourself.
  • Laughing. We must not be that entertaining. You've only given us a good laugh twice.

Once when Dad and I were watching two other babies, they seemed as content and calm as could be. You, on the other hand, were flying from one side of the exersaucer to the other— trying to eat the toys—and letting your presence be known with all your squeals.

Your dad said, "Compared to Logan and Taylor, Skylie acts like she's on crack."

Congratulations, kiddo.

My Primary class loves you. At the beginning of class last week I said, "We're going to have a special visitor today." All of them in unison shouted, "Your BABY!?!?" (P.S. You weren't the visitor.)

Once, a seven-year-old boy gazed at you in my arms, and sweetly asked, "Can I pet her?" With all the tenderness he could muster, he gently stroked your hair (which is getting long, by the way) and wrapped an arm around you. I'm already having to fight the boys off, Skylie! What'll I do when you're a teenager?!

Umm, what else…
Oh yeah, I can't forgetting sleeping and eating.

SLEEPING: The first two weeks back in Des Moines after our month long hiatus in Utah were rough. You were up at all hours, which seemed unusual for you, since you'd been sleeping eight to nine hours straight in Utah. Anyway, a few weeks ago you got back to sleeping well at night. We give you your last feeding between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m., and most of the time you won't wake up before 6:00 a.m. Often you'll sleep until 7:00, and if I'm really lucky it's 8:00.

EATING: We gave you rice cereal two different mornings a few weeks ago, and honestly, you didn't have it again until you were exactly six months. (It wasn't essential.) Last week we started giving you rice cereal every morning.

Skylie, I can't wait for this snow to melt so you and I can be the girls of summer—playing at splash pads, swimming at the pool, and going for lots of walks and picnics.

Love you!
Mom
